Paint Types

PRIMERS:  A primer or undercoat is a preparatory coating applied to surfaces, prior to finishing. Priming ensures adhesion of paint to the substrate, increases paint durability, and provides additional protection, an even coloured and protected surface. Often, topcoats will not perform as desired, unless properly primed. Most finish coats adhere properly to an appropriate primer selection. Primers are available as custom colour match or standard colour aerosols, brush in bottle, touch-up pens and gallons. Standard Colour Chart

SOLVENT ENAMELS: High performance, quick dry, rust preventative, formulated for use on ferrous metal surfaces, and other substrates. Alkyds can be used in shop application facilities and the fabrication market. Also ideal for use in the refurbishment market. Ideal aerosol application Hard scratch and impact resistant coating.  Enamels are available as custom colour match or standard colour aerosols, brush in bottle, touch-up pens and gallons.Standard Colour Chart

ACRYLIC ENAMELS: A high-solids acrylic enamel delivers excellent protection, gloss and colour retention. Commonly used but not limited to metal, wood, and fiber glass surfaces. Acrylic enamels are available as custom colour match or standard colour aerosols, brush in bottle, touch-up pens and gallons.Standard Colour Chart

LATEX ENAMELS: These are faster drying, low odour, easier to clean overspray, and less susceptible to fading and yellowing. The Enamels enjoy a durable, hard finish, once cured. Latex Enamels are available as custom colour match or standard colour aerosols, brush in bottle and gallons. Standard Colour Chart

ENGINE ENAMELS: This product has excellent durability and superior heat and chemical resistance. It is formulated to withstand corrosion, rust, salt spray, chemicals and additives. They are a blend of urethane and ceramic resins. Usually a standard colour is selected. Engine Enamels are available as standard colour aerosols and gallons.Standard Colour Chart

RUST RESISTANT ENAMELS: Our Rust Paint offers superior rust inhibition and it works by penetrating rust and adhering to metal. It has excellent gloss and colour retention, and resistance to corrosion and weathering. Rust Resistant Enamels are available as custom colour match or standard colour aerosols, brush in bottle, touch-up pens and gallons. Standard Colour Chart

LACQUERS: Lacquer is a clear or coloured wood coating. It also adheres well to plastics, metals, and fiber glass. It dries by solvent evaporation that produces a hard, durable finish. It is available in a full range of sheens. The general rule is (as with most paint products) that the more shiny the finish, the more durable it is, though it also shows more imperfections. Fashion trends also effect the choice of sheen.   It is also used for “lacquer paint”, which is a paint that typically dries better on a hard and smooth surface, and is the most durable. The advantage of acrylic lacquer over solvent based is its exceptionally fast drying time. Lacquers are available as custom colour match or standard colour aerosols, brush in bottle, touch-up pens and gallons. Standard Colour Chart

URETHANES: They are clear or coloured finishes that dry by solvent evaporation or a special blending curing process that produces a hard, durable finish. These finishes can be of any sheen level. It is commonly used as a very durable wood finish, or to clear coat a pre-finished surface requiring sheen and durability. Urethanes are available as standard colour aerosols, brush in bottle and gallons.

METALLICS: Available in many standard colours such as gold, silver, bronze, aluminum, galvanized, primers, etc. metallic sprays can also be custom matched to existing finishes These are extensively used by manufacturers and re-furbishers to fix marred surfaces. Metallics are also a chosen finish on their own. Metallic paints are available as custom colour match or standard colour aerosols, brush in bottle, touch-up pens and gallons. HIGH HEAT: For use on barbeques, grills, stoves, pipes, radiators, engines and other metal items. It provides protection against rust. Generally, if you can’t hold your hand on the surface because of the heat, it requires a high heat product. High Heat paints are available as standard colour aerosols and gallons.
